Topic of the session: “Community and belonging”
- This topic was chosen as one of the strategic priorities of Yorkshire and Humber, established in 2021 after a local consultation with many individuals and organisations.

The history of Chilean exiles in the UK provides important context for this project. Their legacy as an activist diaspora, in the 1970s, contributed to the fight for democratic freedoms at home and abroad. Through art—such as embroidery, photography, graphic design, and music—they combined activism with solidarity, creating counter-narratives rooted in their “disrupted” sense of belonging while cultivating a new one in the exile in the UK.
